Something a bit different…

Why I’m Doing Something Different

Music Bit

Has anyone got a favourite new release from this month? I’ve got a few good ones from the end of July, but nothing so far this month – though I’m very much looking forward to The Warning’s new album ‘Everything’s Falling’

What’s everyone’s most listened to artist this week? According to Spotify (so discounting CDs and YouTube) mine is Green Day, followed by Bring Me The Horizon and NOAHFINNCE.

And finally, does anyone have any recommendations for small/local punk or alternative bands? I’m always on the lookout for good music and if they really strike my fancy they’ll probably end up on here!

Book Bit

Following a similar pattern to the above, what’s everyone’s favourite book that’s been released in the last few months? This is tricky for me, as I only actually own two books published this year, and I’m yet to read either of them. They’re A Steeping Of Blood by Hafsah Faizal and Glorious Rivals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, if you were wondering, and they are slowly making their way up my TBR, I promise.

What author are you really enjoying at the moment? Not necessarily your all-time favourite, just the one you’re enjoying right now. Mine are probably Rick Riordan because I’m re-reading Percy Jackson and its just brilliantly funny and well-written. And Emily A. Duggan because I recently finished the first book in the Something Dark and Holy trilogy, Wicked Saints and oh gods it was so good! The magic system, the characters, the base in Slavic culture and mythology… just recommend it so much. Anyway…

Last one, any self-published, or, how do I say this… unknown, books that you have enjoyed/think I would enjoy? I’d really like to read more lesser-known books and just find another good read that isn’t necessarily on a table at Waterstones.

So, that was my bit this week. I hope you enjoyed and the comment box is below! I think in the future I’ll be putting things similar to this as well as my weekly reviews, instead of doing it in the place of the review like tonight. I’ll probably aim to stick these out approximately every Thursday, so I hope you enjoy them!

Recent-est Stuff

LPs and Libraries

Five Star: The Holy Trinity – loveable characters, indescribable plot (and twists!), and writing voice like a god.

Four Star: Like a five star, but maybe Just Didn’t Click like a five star would, still definitely recommend

Three Star: Maybe I didn’t like the main character but loved the plot. Or maybe the other way around. Read the review.

Two Star: Meh. Not horrific. Something made me get to the end.

One Star: I could barely finish, but I did.

DNF (Did Not Finish): I didn’t finish. Self explanatory. (Maybe it was me, maybe it was the book.)

RATINGS FOR MUSIC

Five Star: Will be played, on loop for weeks.

Four Star: Not necessarily on loop, but definitely gonna be heard a lot of.

Three Star: I’ve gotta be in the mood for it, but still a solid album/song.

Two Star: Technically or objectively good, but not my thing.

One Star: For whatever reason, I just don’t like it.
