(Also I’d like to say here that unfortunately this’ll be my last post for a few weeks, as my website’s getting reworked – but I will be back with plenty of reviews (and a functioning site) soon!)

Music Bit

Firstly for my fellow music-lovers, what is the oldest song you enjoy?

I think mine are Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, from their first 1970 album, and The Man Who Sold The World by David Bowie, also from 1970. And I suppose the real winner is San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair) by Scott Mckenzie, which came out in 1967, though I don’t listen to that very often.

And, to compliment the above question, what’s the newest song you like?

The most recent release I’ve listened to is The Warning’s new album Everything’s Falling (which I think has got mentioned on every Questions, so far), of which the most played song has probably been Waste Your Time On Me, or Why Do You Like It When I Cry? (here’s my review of the album: Everything’s Falling by The Warning – Review!). Just before that, there was also NOAHFINNCE’s single TOO SENSITIVE, which is absolutely incredible. I’m currently debating whether to review that or Puberty 2 by Mitski (which I’ve been insistently recommended by a friend) once I’m back from having my website reworked, but I think I’ll go for Puberty 2 and yap about TOO SENSITIVE and MR OVERWHELM when they (hopefully) come out as part of an album. Oh and James Marriott is releasing a single. I certainly have a lot to do!

Finally, what artist do you think is underrated? Whether they just can’t be popular enough, or they have 3 monthly listeners, or they’re undermined for whatever reason, still counts.

I have a few, but I’ll restrict myself to three for the sake of length: My Upside Down, a post-hardcore band from Arizona that haven’t released much music, but are clearly going for quality over quantity. Gun Ghaol, the worlds only Gaelic metalcore band, who we’re getting a new album from (hopefully soon!) and I’ve now seen live 3 times – genuinely incredible (I talked about them a lot here). And finally The Meffs, a very punk two-piece, with hugely impactful lyrics, very loud riffs and a lot of energy – when I’m back from hiatus I’ll be reviewing their upcoming album Business, keep an eye out for it!

Book Bit

First for the bookaholics, what was, to your knowledge, the first book you ever read?

I, obviously, can’t remember it, but my Mum guesses it was probably a non-fiction about dinosaurs, swiftly followed by Goodnight Stories For Rebel Girls. I don’t think I ever liked reading fiction until my Aunt got me Murder Most Unladylike for my 10th birthday and then I didn’t really look back!

What’s the oldest book you’ve read?

*runs to check publication dates* Mine is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, published in 1868, followed by one of my all-time favourites, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, published 1883.

And finally, how do you arrange books on your bookshelf? By Author, Colour, Genre, Wherever-They-Fit or just Vibe?

I personally go for a mix of a few, with loose sections of Genre, within which placement is dictated by Vibe and Wherever-They-Fit. As I get more books and no new shelves, the precedence of Wherever-They-Fit is becoming more prevalent.
