What do all those stars actually mean?
Not every five-star book, album or film is perfect, and sometimes something can be technically brilliant and still not be for me. Here’s roughly what my ratings mean when I review something on LPs and Libraries.
Books
The Holy Trinity
Lovable characters, an indescribable plot (and twists!), and a writing voice like a god.
Definitely recommend
Like a five star, but maybe it just didn’t click like a five star would. Still definitely recommend.
It depends
Maybe I didn’t like the main character but loved the plot. Or maybe the other way around. Read the review.
Meh
Not horrific. Something made me get to the end.
Barely made it
I could barely finish, but I did.
DNF
Did Not Finish
I didn’t finish. Self explanatory. Maybe it was me, maybe it was the book.
Music
On loop
Will be played on loop for weeks.
Definitely coming back to it
Not necessarily on loop, but definitely gonna be heard a lot.
Mood dependent
I’ve gotta be in the mood for it, but still a solid album or song.
Not my thing
Technically or objectively good, but not my thing.
Nope
For whatever reason, I just don’t like it.
Movies & TV
Instant rewatch
Will rewatch to the point of being able to recite it. Do I need to say more?
Taking Up Headspace
Though I won’t quite be able to recite it, it will be rewatched and will probably be in my thoughts the next couple days.

Enjoyable, but nothing to write home about.
